About Captain Tony Grose and Backwater Guide Service

A Lifetime on the Water

Captain Tony Grose is not just a charter captain — he is a lifelong fisherman raised in the marshes and waters of South Louisiana. Fishing is not a hobby for him. It is a way of life that began as a child and grew into a career of helping others experience the thrill, peace, and excitement of time spent on the water.

Born and raised in Saint Bernard, Louisiana, Captain Tony understands the tides, patterns, and fish behavior that come from decades of experience. Since founding Backwater Guide Service over 25 years ago, he has guided thousands of guests to successful catches while delivering safe, enjoyable, and educational charters.

Built on Experience. Refined by Results.

Backwater Guide Service was built with one purpose: to offer authentic Louisiana fishing trips backed by real results. Over the years, Captain Tony developed a reputation for his aggressive approach to targeting fish and his ability to adjust based on daily conditions. This work ethic has led many of his clients to return year after year.

His philosophy is simple. Treat every trip like it matters. Teach when needed. Work hard. Deliver results. Whether guests are complete beginners or seasoned anglers, each charter is customized to provide the right balance of action and instruction.

A Professional Approach to Every Charter

Every part of the experience is intentional and designed with the client in mind. Backwater Guide Service operates a primary vessel — TRITON 240LTS — equipped with high-performance gear and technology. The fleet also includes access to more than fifteen additional boats, allowing for scalable charters and large group bookings.

The vessel includes GPS navigation, sonar fish finders, safety equipment, and high-performance lighting for early morning or night fishing. All fishing gear is matched, maintained, and prepared daily to ensure reliability and performance.

Fishing Is for Everyone

Backwater Guide Service is committed to making fishing accessible and enjoyable for everyone. That includes families, kids, first-time anglers, and professionals. Captain Tony takes pride in teaching, offering instruction without pressure or assumption. Every guest deserves the chance to learn, catch fish, and enjoy the water on their terms.

Groups are welcome. Families are encouraged. Corporate events, reunions, and multi-day fishing camps are available by request.

The Fishing Camp: Where the Water Meets Home

Located in Saint Bernard, the fishing camp provides comfortable onsite lodging for guests who want to stay overnight or plan longer excursions. This camp is part of what makes the service unique. No need to book hotels or travel long distances each day. You stay near the dock, fish all day, and relax on location each night.

The camp includes comfortable sleeping areas, a full kitchen, restrooms, and outdoor space. It is ideal for weekend fishing trips, multi-day group bookings, or getaways with friends and family.

Our Commitment to Authenticity

Backwater Guide Service does not rely on flashy promotions or fabricated reviews. The business has grown steadily over the years by word of mouth, repeat customers, and a commitment to delivering what was promised. Fish are guaranteed. And so is a great time.

Captain Tony works directly with each client, from booking through the end of the trip. There are no middlemen, no impersonal services, and no shortcuts.
